The Rohingya crisis can be defined as a genocide. In Myanmar, a mainly Buddhist country, the Rohingya, a Muslim ethnic minority, have been the victiims of genocide by the Myanmar government. The Rohingya ethnic group have always been persecuted by the Myanmar government; there have been numerous reports of human rights abuses. Recently, the Myanmar government has actually gone into the Rakhine state to rape women, kill individuals, and set villages on fire. Aung San Suu Kyi, the leader of Myanmar, denied these claims, but there was satellite imagery to tell she was lying. Aung San Suu Kyi won the Nobel Peace Prize years ago for freeing Burma of a military dictatorship. She constantly talked about the dangers of power, but it seems she has become the things she fights against. She hilariously says that only 50% percent of the villages have been burned down (That doesn't mean that 50% of villages haven’t been burned). This genocide is a perfect example of ethnic cleansing when one religious group removes another with violence. Due to the persecution, many Rohingya have fled to Bangladesh where the largest refugee camp, Kutupalong, where over 860,000 people sit. We can aid these people by providing them with humanitarian aid like food/shelter/water.
